In Memoriam - Ronald Weldon Were

Ronald Weldon Were, 78, Lower Sackville, passed away November 16th, 2025, at the VG Hospital surrounded by love. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna (née Ramey), and his children Blair (Kim) Were and Tara (Trevor) Magarvey. Dearly loved Grandpa to Belle, Ava, Lyla, Diana and Kate, each unique and special in his eyes.

Ron was born in Halifax, September 24th, 1947, to Edwin and Edna Were. He is survived by his siblings Earl (Liz) Were, Fred (Bev) Were, Albert (Bev) Were, Evie (George) Roy, Susan (David) Slaunwhite and Phil (Sandra) Were and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Carol and her husband Roy White.

Ron was well respected in his career as a Door and Hardware Consultant. He served on the Atlantic chapter of the 'Door and Hardware Institute' where he made many lifelong friendships. Ron was a devout Christian and served in various roles at his church. He enjoyed planning his Sunday School lessons and serving on the 8th Sackville Scouts.

Family time and entertaining was Ron's greatest joy. Holiday gatherings and spontaneous day trips filled with learning something new, laughter and great meals were always memorable.

He and Donna enjoyed many travel adventures, including a visit to the Holy Land, and he particularly loved the outdoors, camping and cottaging in Green Bay, NS.

Kind, thoughtful, and always there for a friend, Ron continued to appreciate the love & companionship of those who reached out and visited as he navigated the challenges of kidney failure and dementia. The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Team on 7A of the VG for their compassion and care in Ron's final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Lr. Sackville, NS.

Visitation will be held on Friday Nov 21, 2025, from 6-8pm at Atlantic Funeral Home, 1110 Old Sackville Rd. A funeral will take place on Saturday Nov 22, 2025, at 1pm Faith Baptist Church, 299 Stokil Dr. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.
